15 year old teen sensation Cori Gauff just beat Venus Williams at Wimbledon

Cori Gauff, the youngest player to ever advance at Wimbledon just beat Venus Williams to advance forward.

Cori Gauff who was relegated to a 313 ranking in the world is feeling an overwhelming amount of excitement after beating Venus Williams at Wimbledon.

She just beat 39-year old legend Venus Williamsin a 6-4 6-4 match in a first-round match at the All England Club.

Gauff told BBC:

“I don”t really know how to feel, this is the first time I’ve cried after a match, after winning,”

She says winning was one of her lifetime dreams. Gauff stated that Venus Williams wasn’t just another opponent, but is the woman who got her interested in Tennis.

Gauff said:

I just told her I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her, she’s so inspiring. I’ve always wanted to tell her that but I’ve never had the guts to before.

Gauff won the first set, and held on to 3 match points in the second set. She won after her fourth match point. The match lasted 1 hour and 19 minutes.

Gauff continued on to say:

My parents will be super happy, my dad was jumping up every time I won a point. I’m so happy they spent all their time on me and my brothers and making sure we’re successful.”

Gauff won the French Open girl’s championship last year. This year she became the youngest woman to win a Grand Slam qualifying match in the French Open.
