A woman who sat on her boyfriend and crushed his body has plead guilty to murder.
44 year old Windi C. Thomas pleaded guilty to murdering her boyfriend, 44 year old Keeno Butler.
Windi Thomas agreed to a recommended sentence of 18 to 36 years in state prison as part of her plea agreement with prosecutors. She’s being sentenced on December 21st.
Erie County Judge William R. Cunningham accepted the plea this morning. Assistant Erie County District Attorney Jeremy Lightner dropped Thomas’ charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and possession of the instrument of a crime in exchange for Thomas’ plea in her boyfriend’s death.
Thomas was scheduled to face trial on December 10th, but after accepting the plea, she got her sentence cut 4 years, instead of the normal 20-40 years that she was going to serve if found guilty.
Thomas’ lawyer Mark Del Duca, of Pittsburgh said:
“It’s a good result based upon the facts of the case. I think it’s fair for both sides.”
Sandra Butler, the victim’s sister said:
“I feel like she should have 40 or more. She deserved life.”
Thomas said she cut Butler’s hand with a knife, then hit him in the back the head with a table leg during a confrontation, and he fell.
When he was trying to get back up, Thomas said she sat both her knees on him and rested her body weight on his chest. According to the affidavit, Thomas weighed 300 pounds to Butler’s 120 pounds.
Butler’s autopsy showed his death was caused by:
“respiratory insufficiency secondary to blunt force trauma to the neck and thoracic compression, exacerbated by blunt force trauma to the head,”
Butler’s obituary read:
“Keeno will be remembered as a person who was full of love, energy and had a smile that would light up a room. He enjoyed pets, music, dancing and working. The greatest part of Keeno’s life was when he was with his family, especially his daughter and grandchildren. He was loved by many.”
He’s survived by his mother, a daughter, two granddaughters and nine siblings.
