A mother committed suicide after her husband cheated on her and raped a woman he met on tinder.

Rica McKay, 47 years old, met a woman on tinder and at the end of the date was accused of treating the woman “like an animal” and raping her.

He was sentenced to 7 years in jail.

On November 29th 2018 it’s now been revealed that Yinka McKay, 40 years old, had taken her life back in June 27th 2018.

Yinka first learned of the cheating back in early 2016 when Rica was accused of rape. After the accusation, she decided that they should have a trial separation, and suffered her first mental breakdown. After not hearing talk of anyone pressing charges or court, she agreed to take him back in May 2016 only under the condition that they renew their vows.

But in January 2017 she learned he was being taken to court. Rica McKay was jailed that year. Since then, the shock of the incident had continued to cause her mental health to deteriorate, and she continued to get worse mentally and physically falling into depression.

One year after her husband was jailed, Yinka took her son to school then went to Birchwood railway station near her home in Warrington Cheshire and committed suicide by throwing herself onto the train tracks under an oncoming train, and was run over.

Yinka and Rica McKay got married in 2000, and had 3 sons together since then. She worked as a Nutritionist at the Wythenshaw Hospital in Manchester.

Mrs McKay’s mother, Irene Fatimilehin gave public a statement to the Washing hearing, and spoke about how Yinka & Rica’s relationship broke down after Rica McKay left the family to go work in Azerbaijan and London in 2015:

“During 2015 there were marital difficulties and that was the start of her struggles. She could not cope and started to become manic, her work was affected, she was upset all the time. Rica came home to stay for a few days during this time and she would also go down to see where he was living in London for a few days at a time. On her return from the visits she started to show some evidence of paranoia. I moved in to help her out. In early 2016, Rica was accused of rape and she decided that they should have a trial separation.”

Even when her Mother moved in to helped her, Yinka’s health continued to deteriorate.

Her mother continued:

“In April, she said she would only reunite if they took their marriage vows again and they did so in May. But in January 2017, Yinka learned that Rica would appear in court for rape. She started to deteriorate again and that was the start of her second breakdown. She did not sleep for days and was taking medication.”

Yinka McKay admitted that she had more than £10,000 in credit cards debts against her name, and was admitted to a hospital where she spent three weeks.

When her husband was sentenced to 7 years in jail for rape, she applied for a divorce.

Her mother continued:

“The day before her death she started to become worried about touching the bin and about germs. She went to bed during the day but got up four times. I made tea for the boys. The next morning she took one of the boys to school in the car and left at 8.45am. She would usually come home straight away.

When she wasn’t home for 9, I called her and she said she was waiting to speak to a teacher. I ended the call with ‘God bless’ and she replied the same. I kept calling and texting her but did not hear from her. In the months before her death she had attempted and talked about taking her own life. She had visited the same train station before.”

In a Statement, Rica McKay said he’d been “living with his wife but accepted his marriage was over”. He said that he didn’t rape the woman, that he was only cheating. He said the woman “seemed to be enjoying” the sex.

The woman McKay cheated with said that they initially had consensual sex, but as Rica McKay was about to leave he demanded they have sex again, and she said No. She then says he attacked her, and she froze in fear as she did not want confrontation, and she laid there as he raped her.

In a statement, the woman said

“I was doing all I could to get him out of the house. He sent me a message at 4am and said ‘thank you for kicking me out’”

Rica McKay was convicted by a majority verdict of two charges of rape, and is still serving his sentence.
