Kimora Lee Simmons has bought the company Baby Phat.
On International Women’s day, Kimora Lee Simmons announced that she bought Baby Phat, and will be relaunching the company.
The street-wear was once one of the most popular brands internationally. She’s planning to relaunch this year.
Kimora declined to disclose the price for which she bought the company for, but she state,
“We had to hunt around to find it.”
Leissner created the street-wear brand 20 years ago as an extension of the Phat Farm men’s label, which was under her Ex Husband Russell Simmons’ Phat Fashions company.
In its prime, Baby Phat was one of Phat Fashions’ most profitable brands with a wide variety of product categories and sales in excess of $1 billion. Major celebrities wore the brand, and it made waves at elaborate fashion shows.
Leissner said when the label is relaunched for spring, it will be a “mainstream sportswear” collection for Millennials targeted to the mid-tier retail level.
Leissner has plans on tapping into her “amazing personal archive” as inspiration for the collection. She says the relaunch will have “retro” elements that will be modernized, as well as new looks.
People are extremely excited about the brand’s comeback, and are planning on dropping Fashion Nova, the Brand that frequently steals designs from women of color and black designers,
