Florida man who was arrested for stealing cars, gets released and immediately breaks into another car in the Jail he was released from’s Parking Lot.

A Florida man who was arrested for stealing cars, breaks into another car after he placed bond to be released. After getting bonded out he broke into cars from that very jail’s parking lot.

Michael Casey Lewis, 37, was originally arrested on charges of grand theft Thursday morning.

Upon release, he wandered around the jail parking lot claiming he was waiting for his girlfriend.

St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement:

“After being released, deputies in the parking lot of the jail observed Lewis pulling car door handles and learned he had just burglarized several cars right there at the jail,”

After he bonded out of jail, the Affidavit states that surveillance cameras saw Lewis getting into a silver vehicle and then walking around the rest of the parking lot looking into cars and checking to see whether they were unlocked.

From one of the cars he stole cigarettes, a debit card, a Florida driver’s license and $547 in cash.

From another car he stole an iPhone 7 worth approximately $1,000 that was laying around in the car. A Florida woman whose car he stole the items from said she had accidentally left her car unlocked with more than $1000 in cash and an iPhone viewable through the window.

Police say when they confronted him, he said he was waiting for his girlfriend in the parking lot and not causing any trouble.

After being told about the security cameras he handed the items back to the cops.

Lewis was re-booked at the same jail, and was released moments later after bailing himself out for $11,250.
